dvd rom stopped working

my dvd rom is not reading dvd but reading cd

i tried various time but it doesnt work and the worst thing is i tried installing windows 8 which was in a dvd but it wasnt reading it and saying bootmgr is currupt and aften 1 hour 32 minuter it read that after ejecting and inserting 3 times a minute............................what is the problem?????

Are you sure that your dvd disk is not corrupted? Is your cd/dvdv drive old? Might want to be compatibility issue with some cheap dvds. Happened to me before
