DVD-RW and DVD+RW whats the difference

Hello all, I just bought a Sony DRU500A DVD burner and was wanting to know the differences between the two medias. The burner says it supports both but is one like VHS and the other like Beta?? Are there any pros/cons between them. Or if someone just knows a link I can go read describing these.
