i heard that back in the day if you had a fast hard drive and a cd drive on the same IDE controller that the hard drive would have to perofmr slower and at the same spead as the CD drive. now we have sata so thats not a problem. but, i am going to be buying a dvd writer to replace my slow and broken cd writer. that means ill have a fast dvd drive and a slow cd reader on the same IDE channell because i have all hard drives on sata. will my other cd drive slow down the dvd drive? if so id be better off with just a dvd drive and no cde drive unless there the same spead.

Most DVD Drives (Readers/Writers) today are going to be SATA now. I would recommend getting one of those if you have an additional unused SATA connection.
