DVD writable drive always not ready

I can read from my DVD, but when I try to burn ANYTHING to that same DVD rewritable, it always responds as 'not ready' Can someone help me?

Go to the Drive Properties and set it to record.

Selec the drive then alt-F select Properties, Recording then check Enable CD recording on this drive, click apply and OK.
