DVD writer problem with windows 7...LG

Lg super multi DVD writer problem...
When I am writing files to dvd or copying files from dvd then HDD light glows high showing max. usage and when I tried to give heavy load hard disk i.e. opening wmp and playing songs then writing or copying fails. Then I have to reset my pc after re-booting DVD drive is not recognized. I reinsert CMOS battery to reset the bios and everything will OK and dvd drive is recognized but when trying to write or copy the problem repeats.

Is this a new drive? If so, why not just return it for a replacement?

I dont think it is the problem with dvd writer it could be problem with Hard disk or windows 7 because when there is no work load while writing, it writes successfully.
