I have a LG DVD writer. After writing about half dozen DVD's it just says 0 bytes free on a empty DVD and it does not allow me to write. I cannot explore the already recorded DVD's. It says the file system is RAW. These DVD's are running fine on another system.

This is happening to me for the 2nd time.

Is this some kind of virus. Pl can some explain to to sort this out.

Some drives will limit the number of disks that can be burned without a power-cycle, my LG drives do the same, I beleive it's an attempt to make life difficult for pirates.

Are you refering to an absolute Max number of writes, or the Nr of times that the region code can be changes - max of 5 times for most readers/writers.

As to max total write cycles - this would be one way to force replacement every x Nr of years. Big diff in doing say 10 writes a week (520 per year) and say 4 writes per week over 2.5 years (also 520)

hi

i mean max no of writes. this happened after only 6-7 writes. this second time around for my LG writer. it does only for dvd's. it can read and write normal cd's and can play dvd's. but when it comes to empty dvd's it says 0 bytes free 0 bytes used. that is reason i cant write.

Vayar - My post post aimed at MrLinux.

I think chookman made a good point - It may be your drive. You might try one ot the lens cleaning kits. Normally doesn't help, but worth a try. Baring this, can you lay your hands on a known good dvd writer (ie borrow one from a friend) and try it in your computer - That would tell you if it is a software promplem, or a Hardware issue.

Good luck (replacement drives are only $20 -> $25)
