Hello, I am having a few questions about the DVI monitor I'm buying. Does DVI also transmit audio, or do I need to get a complete speaker set? Will my simple headphones do well enough for games and the sort? Thank you for your time.

DVI is not specified to transmit audio. However, that does not mean that it is impossible.

HDMI is a derivative of DVI which uses an identical electrical interface as Single-Link DVI-D. The connections and signalling scheme are the same. The only physical difference between HDMI and SL-DVI-D is the shape of the physical connector. The logical interface is a bit different but the GPU can poll the display to determine what it's capabilities are and then configure the link afterward. Many GPUs...

The only physical difference between HDMI and SL-DVI-D is the shape of the physical connector. The logical interface is a bit different but the GPU can poll the display to determine what it's capabilities are and then configure the link afterward. Many GPUs, including IGPs, have provisions to transmit audio over a DVI-D connection if the display supports it as well. This is hit and miss though, so if your display has speakers or an audio output you should use HDMI if the interface is available.
