DVI and VGA cables work together?

So I finished my PC and hooked it up to the monitor and "No Signal Detected" came up on the screen. The DVI is connected to the PC and the VGA is connected to the monitor. I'm new to the building computers thing and need help

Use a dvi to vga adapter and you' should be fine.

So you have a DVI cable plugged into the computer with the other end laying on the ground, and a VGA cable plugged into the monitor with its other end laying on the ground and you fail to see the problem? I'm assuming you aren't that dumb and you are already using an adapter. System specs would be helpful, try using the other DVI port on your GPU if you have one.
