i recently got a gtx 1060 and i see it has a DVI cable slot and HDMI ... my monitor Dell D2215H supports DVI and VGA... i recently learnt that a DVI cable has to be used over the VGA cable with a converter as digital > analog ... but the problem i am facing is with very limited manufacturers making that product over here

i came across BlueRigger DVI cables in amazon.in (http://www.amazon.in/dp/B009WA4EBU/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=2MIWX7B67OA6U&coliid=I1ATP88X9Z8I9K&psc=1)...

i have no idea about 60 or 120hz regarding the monitor

kindly let me know if it is a good choice i am making ...

Solution
All you need is a dvi to dvi cable - there are plenty of them and they are very cheap.
since it's a digital cable, it's not important which one you pick.
Well, hold on there. If your monitor has a DVI port AND a VGA port, then you shouldn't need to worry too much about it and you shouldn't need an active adapter (convert digital to analog) as that's what DVI is. Now, there are several different DVI types, and on the GTX 1060, I'm willing to bet it's a DVI-D. DVI-D has 24 holes (8x3) and one horizontal line. It only supports digital output.

That doesn't mean it's incompatible with DVI-I which is a combination of digital and analog pins which your monitor may support. Normally, a monitor wouldn't have a DVI-A (analog only) with a VGA (analog only) input, it would have a digital input (DVI-D/DVI-I) and an analog input (VGA).

So - read the specs on the monitor - see if it is a DVI-D/DVI-I, and if it is, you can use a straight DVI-D cable to connect with the GTX-1060.

That one would work but they do have cheaper ones of money is a big concern.

You need a dvi-d to dvi-d cable or you could also use a HDMI to dvi-d cable. If it's a 120Hz display then you would need to use a dual link dvi-d to dvi-d cable. If you are not sure what refresh rate you monitor supports post the model # of the monitor.

im using a Dell D2215H... sorry forgot to mention earlier ... and im still not sure about the refresh rate

yup its a DVI - D one with 8x3 i.e. 24 pins ....

so should i upgrade my monitor to get the most of the gtx 1060? can you shed some light on the 60Hz

Well the only upgrade would be to go bigger and/or higher resolution. But - the GTX 1060 is geared for 1080p gaming - and your monitor is a 1080p monitor. So - you've got the right resolution, the only thing you may ever want to increase is the size - but that's determined by your work area. I personally have a HP 27xi - it's a nice monitor but comparitively speaking it's huge compared to a 19-21" monitor like yours.

I would just leave it as it stands... you should be good.
