Relevant bits of my setup - Windows 7 PC, 2x Radeon R290s. 2 Monitors, primary is a Shimian running 1440p through DVI, secondary is an LG running 1080p through HDMI. Have had it setup for a while with no issues.

I had to move my computer yesterday, once I set it all up again I was getting an error with my Catalyst drivers. The HDMI monitor was working fine but the other monitor was not detected at all. I reinstalled the latest Catalyst drivers.

After a restart the Shimian is detected, it turns on (backlight) but does not display anything. It became the primary monitor again so I had to use the alt+spacebar trick to switch the setup to mirrored rather than extended. The HDMI monitor is still working fine.

I've tried messing with the plugs etc to no avail. I have noticed that the Shimian has a poor design at the back which makes the DVI cable have to bend a bit but all the pins seem fine.

Within device manager both displays are showing up as 'generic pnp'. I'm not sure if that's correct?

Have done so much googling but haven't gotten anywhere, please help!

turn PC off, reseat your video card and make sure cables have not been pinches (cracked cables inside housing), it the second monitor can do DVID they try that port for a moment to make your you HDMI hasn't gone dead on monitor/video card ( I have a monitor that HDMI is bad, but DVID is good

No joy 🙁 Monitor only has DVI - D connection. I bought a new cable in case it was that but it's doing exactly the same thing. Checked the vid card it seems fine and is running the HDMI monitor fine. Could possibly try a DVI - HDMI cable? The design of the monitor is poor with the DVI connection at a strange angle, meaning the cable needs to be bent. I'm wondering if maybe the connection is damaged on the monitors end.

Just seems odd the computer can detect the monitor with correct resolution but no image.

I am confused.

first you say " Monitor only has DVI - D connection"
then you say : "Checked the vid card it seems fine and is running the HDMI monitor fine."

so the hdmi monitor doesn't have a DVI connector ? could you not test the DVI video connector with that monitor to clear the vid card of issues?

Sorry to clarify. 2 monitors, one has hdmi/vga only and the other has DVI. Both plug into the same card. The hdmi/vga one is working fine. I don't have easy access to another DVI monitor to test. Do you think I could use a hdmi - DVI I cable to test this?

the monitor that has DVI, it is the ONLY connector on it (odd but possible I guess) well you could try a DVI/VGA converter, and use VGA port on video card and DVI on monitor.( I suggest it as they usually give one with video cards )

ie: Video card VGA[]--VGA Cable--[VGA/DVI[] DVI monitor

Yeah the monitor is DVI only, it's one of the Shimian Korean monitors, not designed the best. My video card doesn't have any VGA connections just 2 dvi 1 hdmi 1 display port.

Unfortunately not, I have my work laptop I could use but it only has VGA/Display port (HP Elitebook). I will get a HDMI-DVI after work and give that a go.

Just some more information, when in the resolution settings it names the HDMI monitor (E2441) but just refers to the DVI monitor as 'digital'. Not sure if that's relevant but thought I'd mention it.
