I have a MSI B450 Tomahawk Max Motherboard I just Purchased which has a DVI-D on board connector. I have a Samsung Monitor with a DVI & VGA connector and am confused about what cable I can use. I Am not sure if a DVI Cable is compatible with the DVI-D connector to DVI connector on the back of the Monitor or if a DVI-D cable is compatible with a DVI connector on the monitor. Can someone please tell me what cable is recommended. I Googled on line a specific question of DVI-D to DVI and nothing specific to that question arose and what there was left me even more confused.

Solution
What monitor is it?

If it has DVI-I (analogue and digital), pins as follows :::::::: :-:

The right four pin holes surrounding the flat - pin is for analogue signals. Rest of it is digital and can fit a DVI-D cable in it. Search differences between DVI-D and DVI-I.

DVI-D is digital only and doesn't have those four pins surrounding the - pin.

Thank for the response: I just physically checked the MSI B450 Tomahawk Max board in the box and it has :::::::: ----- (3 rows of 8 pin holes and the long pin, and the one on the back of my monitor is the same. The only difference is the one on the motherboard is black and the one on the monitor is white.

DVI is the overall standard. The connector can be either DVI-D or DVI-I. There is no "plain DVI" connector. If something is labeled "DVI" it just means they aren't being specific about whether it's DVI-D or DVI-I.

Regardless, a standard Dual-Link DVI cable will connect any DVI port to any other DVI port.

Motherboard/monitor uses DVI-D. Get a DVI-D Dual Link cable.

Colour doesn't matter if in case wondering.
