DVI-D Single Link compared DVI-D Dual link ?

What is going to be the difference. I see the monitor I got has a DVI-D Single Link cable. Is this like running 1080i instead of running 1080p with dua link cablel?

So now I see there is a DVI-DL (dual link) cable. This is cable with additional pins in it making it a DL and not a single. Question is does the monitor support DVI-DL? I looked @ the specs of the monitor and doesn't say thing about DVI-DL.

Its to do with the rez your using

Single up to 1920 × 1200
Dual up to 2560 × 1600

so even for 1080p singlelink will do

The single /dual link DVI-D difference was annoying me
Will never use 2560 x 1600 you would need a crazy size screen for that. Dont know any monitors near £100 that would do that resolution. Plus you woud need a might graphics card for that res to get decent fps or even more than 1 graphics card!

Any 2560x1600 LCD mointor would be a 30" either a VA or IPS panel which would cost in excess of $1000 USD.

Well meant to say without the price of the monitor shooting up in price. But I have a 32-inch TV downstairs which I hooked up via DVI to HDMI and would not give me more than 1920x1080.
Yes probably because its not just made for PCs but for eg that size cost £299 and that was down from £399 on sale. Plus I think the amount of power used to run the monitor will be considerably more. My 32inch for eg I have tested on a power monitor at 132W AC.
To look at a 30 inch screen up close though will seem a bit daft having to turn your neck across the screen to see

HDTVs maximum resolution is 1920 x 1080; it cannot go beyond that because they are designed to be that way.

You need a 30" PC monitor if you want 2560 x 1600.
