DVI-D to VGA adapter on LCD display?

I've heard that some types of display don't work with those adapters, I have MAG 900W 19" LCD monitor which has only VGA input, but my new graphics card has DVI-D, HDMI and DP. Will DVI-D to VGA adapter work without any converters or I need to buy one?
Also, I have HDMI to DVI-I adapter, can I just buy DVI-I to VGA because it's really cheap?

No, in both cases. You need an active converter.

You need to convert the digital signal from your graphic card outputs to an analog signal your display can work with. Adapters cannot do this. You need an active converter.

This one costs 40$, has audio output, and still doesn't need more power. I've found even 6$ devices brand new like this one, that have same functionality and don't need external power. My friend got one of these recently and had no problem with it, so I'll go for it, isn't too expensive.
