dvi-d to vga not working

Hi, i bought an dvi-d to vga adaptor, but when i turn on my computer desktop show nothing, what is the reason?

Most likely you bought an adapter that doesn't do the digital to analog conversion. You need an "active" adapter. Here's an example: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812400402

What GPU? as Scottray said you may need an active adapter like DisplayPort to VGA
