I have 2 GIGABYTE builds:
1) GIGABYTE GA-A75M-D2H FM1 AMD A75 (Hudson D3)
2) GIGABYTE GA-MA790GP-DS4H AM2+/AM2 AMD 790GX

#1 uses the APU integrated graphics and #2 uses a ATI-4770 graphics card.

I have 2 Monitors:
ACER AL2216W
- works using DVI-D & HDMI (with adapter) with #2 but not with #1 (says no signal)
- VGA with #1 works and I have been using this so far ( don' care for VGA with #2)

HANNSspree HF229H
- works with the HDMI socket for both #1 & #2 ( don' care for VGA with #1 & #2)

Ultimate aim is to get the AL226W working with DVI-D.
Why is this happening? Any of the experts here can provide me with any answers/clues/suggestions etc, please.

Solution
DVI-D is dual link dvi which is necessary to run a 2560 x 1600 resolution monitor. It needs a special dvi-D cable to do so.
DVI-D is also compatible with plain dvi which is more limited.

Today, integrated graphics seem to be limited to 1920 x 1200 output.
The 4770 does have dvi-d outputs and can support 2560 x 1600.

In this case, it is irrelevant, since you are dealing only with 1920 x 1200 or 1080P resolutions.

It is not clear to me which pc you want the AL226W attached to.

Two things to check:

1) Does the monitor have a switch to select the input source? Is it set properly?
2) Is the integrated graphics motherboard driver on #1 installed?

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to respond, appreciate the effort.

Here are my responses:
-I want the AL2216W (1680x1050 max resolution) to be attached to the #1 using the DVI-D SINGLE LINK cable and yes the integrated graphics driver (APU-AMD Radeon HD 6410D) is installed on #1.

-The same monitor has the analog/digital option for selection and says "no signal" when switched to the digital option using the DVI-D cable but works perfectly fine with the VGA (switch to analog ) option.

-The DVI-D cable works perfectly when plugged between #2 & AL2216W and not with #1.

-Are you suggesting that I should use DVI-D dual link cable between #1 & AL2216W?
If so then why is the single-link cable working in #2 with the standalone graphics of AMD Radeon HD 4770?

Let me know if you need any more clarification and thanks again for your help.

I don't think you have a dual link dvi-d cable, since it would only be supplied with a 2560 x 1600 monitor that needs one.

I suspect you may have a defect in the #1 motherboard dvi adapter, since the AL2216W monitor seems to work fine with a discrete graphics card, the 4770.

Are there any motherboard bios settings on #1 to enable the integrated grapnics?

The motherboard bios has the option to switch to DVI-Dual link which when enabled shuts out the use of VGA and HDMI.
I have tried that option and I get horrible resolution (640x480) for the AL2216W and also Win7-64bit greys out the option to change resolution to anything else.
Can I try anything else or what?
Thanks again for your help.

I am out of ideas. You might try gigabyte technical support.
