DVI Hookup Question

Just received 8400 with a 19 flat panel monitor. Could not get the monitor to
display anything when hooked up with DVI (white) cable. The CPU only seemed to
have a DVI port, not a VGA port. The CPU came with a VGA to DVI adaptor, and
finally got the the monitor to work with the blue VGA cable into the CPU with
the VGA to DVI adaptor. Why won't the DVI cable alone work?

On mine one of the buttons on the monitor switches between the DVI and
analog inputs. Perhaps yours has something similar.

I'm sure that when you read the manual you found the button on the front of
the monitor.......

No manaula came with the blasted thing... is there a button or a switch to
change from VGA to DVI... and secondly, is there any adavantage to DVI over
VGA?

No button. Attach a DVI cable from the DVI output of your video card (if it
has one) to the DVI input of your monitor (if it has one.)

With contemporary LCD monitors, there is no visible advantage to DVI over
VGA. In the future, all video systems will use DVI because it's cheaper to
manufacture.

One of the buttons on the front.

I have two, one analog and one digital, and there's little difference
although the DVI might be a little sharper.

The 19" Dell FPs that I have have 2 inputs and a switch to select
between them.
