Hello guys,

I have a Samsung monitor with a DVI-I output and I have a DVI-D port on the graphic card (GeForce GT 740)
...and my question is if it will work with an adapter DVI-I to DVI-D

DVI-I (monitor) » DVI-I to DVI-D (adapter) » Graphic card

that's weird ?? never known NVidia to use dvi-d only on there cards ??? primarily NVidia cards have dvi-I first and foremost and maybe dvi-d as secondary ??

what card /brand is it ? I'd like to look at that ??

never mind I see now what going on -- some brands use a vga for the analog and dvi-d for the digital outputs .. interesting .. [thanks learned something on that ]

heres the deal how I see it

yes the adaptor should work cause the dvi-I supports analog and digital [why theres the 4 extra holes around the flat pin thing] dvi-d is digital only [4 extra holes missing for the analog support ]

so you can go from dvi-d to dvi-I

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Visual_Interface

so yes I fell it should work fine

added info

''The two kinds of connectors are DVI-D and DVI-I. It's easy to tell them apart. DVI-I has a pair of slots which look like a plus sign with four sockets around it. DVI-D has a single slot which looks like a minus sign. Because of that physical difference, you can plug a DVI-D cable into a DVI-I connector but you can't plug a DVI-I cable into a DVI-D connector. A DVI-D cable is wired only for the digital video signal. DVI-D cables can't carry analog signals.

hard to find - I assume this is what you need ??

https://www.computercablestore.com/dvi-adapter-dvi-i-female-to-dvi-d-male-2

dvi-d male to the vid card and dvi-I female for the monitor ??

that's is kinda backwards to the norm what you got going for some reason ?? seems between what the monitor came with for cables and all to hook it up from the factory in the box and what the card had in its box all should be easily to hook up and use ???

Well. I'll buy Monday an adaptor to see if it work. Thanks!

If you could find a cable maybe better than an adaptor - thing is I'm not clear on what is what ?? is the dvi-I on your monitor male or female ??

thing is if female I think a cable that has a dvi-I/d male to plug into the monitor and a dvi-d male to plug into the card is your best bet ??

this has dvi-d on both ends [dvi-d will plug into dvi-I]
