Hi guys, I've got a Stix 1080ti on the way which only has 2 DP ports but I want to go to triple monitor setup, so my question is would HDMI or DVI be better? All three monitors would be Agon 1440p 144Hz.

Solution
I am a bit curious as to why you would not have bought a 1080 Ti with triple DisplayPort. Since you are aware of the issue.

Anyways, 144hz and 2560x1440 is beyond the capabilities of Dual Link DVI. You will need to use your HDMI. As the card supports HDMI 2.0. HDMI 2.0 is capable of a maximum 144hz refresh rate at 2560x1440.

The next question is. What does your monitor support? Many of the 144hz 2560x1440 monitors do not support HDMI 2.0.

I can't find any HDMI 2.0 to Displayport cables or adapters. I don't know if such a thing exists. Displayport to HDMI 2.0 adapters are one way they won't work HDMI to DP just DP to HDMI.

I would return the 1080 Ti unopened if that is an option. Then buy a model with triple Displayport. Even if...

It is worth the savings in grief if you can't get it to work or have to screw with adapters. Be absolutely sure your monitor supports 2560x1440 at 144hz over HDMI before you open that box. If you will incur an additional return fee.

If the company has a return fee. Try calling and working with the sales department. To see if they will waive the fee if you are swapping for another model of GTX 1080 Ti which supports triple DP and your item is unopened.

Even if they allow open box returns with no additional fees. If you know it won't work. It would be a bit of a dick move if you opened it. As you know they have to resell it open box at a reduced price.

Solution

Because I personally prefer to buy Asus and I wasn't planning on a triple monitor setup originally but the Monitor got discounted heavily this morning. It also supports HDMI 2.0

Thank you kindly.
