I have a home-built PC with a Radeon R7-260X graphics card. This card supports DVI and/or HDMI. My monitor is a Dell ST2421L and it also supports DVI and/or HDMI. I am a hardware sort of guy but graphics are something I admittedly don't know a lot about. My main uses for my machine are browsing the internet, watching movies, and playing World of Warcraft. My question for the rest of the group here is, which would I be better off using, or better yet, which of the DVI and/or HDMI would I be be better off using? Thanks for the advice, I look forward to the replies. kb5zue

Thanks for the quick response, really preciate it. Obviously I did not read the forums before posting my note. From what I can tell, they are basically the same with the exception that HDMI includes sound. My monitor does not have sound so to fix that problem I use a Bose Companion 5 speaker system. I will continue to use the DVI, once again, thanks for the help.

You should use HDMI. Because most Monitors/TV/Projectors are using HDMI. DVI is a little outdated, and HDMI is more portable and lighter than any output cables. If you are planning only to play games, you can choose either, for future-proofing, I recommend you to use HDMI.

DVI is definitely not outdated and is still used when you want your monitor to run over 60hz (HDMI 2.0 isn't compatible with a lot of monitors). kb5zue, what is the refresh rate of your monitor? If it's over 60hz, you'll want to use DVI over HDMI. Only DisplayPort and Dual Link DVI will allow your monitor to have a refresh rate over 60hz, unless your monitor and graphics card both support HDMI 2.0, which the 260x doesn't.
