Switched from a DVI cable to a HDMI cable and now dont have any sound. In the control panel under sounds see the digital audio but says not plugged in. Have windows 8 and an Asus monitor with speakers, any kind of help welcome. Thanks in advance. Ps just redownloaded the audio drivers so that is not an issue Im thinking.

Hi, not sure if switched over or converted but is true dvi will only carry video with an exception for some video cards being able to carry sound via dvi to hdmi with a special converter designed with an extra pin to carry sound. If the card is able to, an adapter would have come with the packaging.

Whats your computer specs? and where is the hdmi cord plugged from, onboard video? discrete video?

I unplugged my DVI cable and now am just using a HDMI cable. The monitor has picture but no sound through its speakers.

If you were previously using audio over DVI, you probably had to connect a two-pin cable from your motherboard to your graphics card. Remove this cable and restart your computer. Change the default audio to Digital HDMI and you should be good to go.
