DVI to HDMI + Component Issue

Here goes. My company has some older video conferencing hardware that I am trying to hook up. The outputs that the conference hardware has are HDMI and RCA (Audio and Video).

So, our Network Admin, a real naive fellow, got the bright idea to convert the DVI to HDMI and leave it sitting. Once that contraption failed to produce sound, I pointed out the flaw and began fixing it properly.

So, my issue is, the DVI is served out of the video conferencing box and it converts to an HDMI at the TV. Obviously, DVI does not support sound, so I have been trying to get sound from the RCA output on the video conferencing equipment to the RCA input on the TV to no avail.

So, is the TV seeing that there is an HDMI cable plugged in and it's expecting sound to come from that cable? The video works just fine, but I think that since the input of the TV is set to HDMI that the TV expects sound to come from HDMI and not the RCA/Component cables.

Essentially, do I need to use RCA cables for audio and video to counter this issue and do away with the DVI to HDMI since the TV doesn't have DVI and the video conferencing doesn't have HDMI.

Let me know if I was clear enough.

Thanks
