This may be a dumb question but here's my situation:

Computer ----> Receiver ----> HDTV
................HDMI.............HDMI.........
AND

Computer ----------> Monitor
...............HDMI - DVI............

Now what I want to do is switch between using the monitor and HDTV. Not both at the same time. As well, I need audio to pass to the receiver + speakers and sub. My graphics card (GTX 670) only has 1 HDMI output, so I was thinking of using that for the receiver connection. My monitor only has HDMI connections, so I was thinking of getting a DVI to HDMI adapter. Will this setup work? Will there be quality loss with the DVI to HDMI adapter or will going straight DVI to HDMI cable work better?

Solution
There wouldn't be any quality loss; digital is digital, you're just converting the connecting pins (generalization).

Looks like all you need is a HDMI -> DVI adapter.

Audio should still get passed through to your receiver via the HDMI from your video card regardless of which display you're using.
Yes this works just fine I do this my self. The only issue i have is when I turn off my tv the whole sound line dies and i have to turn on and off the power or the receiver amp.

other thoughts: the hdmi to dvi port is kinda pricey.
