dvi to hdmi

I have a Dell windows xp and a Sanyo telivision i am trying to watch movies on my tv from my computer, I bought a hdmi- dvi premium cable but i can not get the tv to show what is on the computer i need to know what i need to do to watch a movie on my tv that i am watching on my computer

You do realize you lose any AUDIO by having DVI?

Your only audio output is likely the headphone jack.

You might wish to consider a different tactic such as the WDTV LIVE which can either STREAM your video from the laptop, or you can copy the video to a USB thumb drive or laptop drive.

There are similar products but I haven't used those.

I know the WD played everything I can think of including:
- MKV/MOV etc.
- Vorbis/AAC/MP3 etc.
- *even ISO images of DVD or BluRay!
- Netflix..

I think you can find them for as little as $80.
