DVI to HDMI

I have a monitor with only vga and dvi. Would a dvi to hdmi, then to an hdmi splitter to add a monitor/cable box cause a quality loss?

Why not just get a HDMI to DVI cable? or just DVI to DVI? The difference between DVI and HDMI is that HDMI transfers audio as long as you have a dual link dvi you can do 4k

I have an hdmi to dvi into my pc now. But id like to add a monitor and other devices.

Yeah, and add my cable box via hdmi, possibly chromecast as well.

Sorry to be a pain mate but having troublr getting my head round this so correct me if i say anything wrong here but from what i understand i cannt see a problem, basically you want two monitors both hooked up to your pc by hdmi to dvi and a hdmi to dvi running from the cable box into one of the monitors?

No, youre fine man. Let me try to explain it this way. My monitor only has 1 vga and 1 dvi. And since vga is out of the question that leaves me with one single dvi port. Lets say I want to hookup a bunch of stuff like chromecast, a cable box, my computer, another monitor, what would be my solution?
