Question dvi to hdmi

i bought a new monitor for my old computer, the pc only accepts dvi (and usb) plugs, and the monitor only tasks hdmi, so i bought a wire what is on one side dvi and the other side hdmi, and the monitor dosnt works, it gets the no video signal detected massage, what can i do?

Are you able to test the monitor with any HDMI devices, such as a game console or laptop? And if it also has VGA input, have you tried manually selecting HDMI?

i tried it with an other computer what can take hdmi plugs and it worked
