DVI to (using DVI/HDMI adapter) HDMI as good as VGA to VGA?

Just got a new monitor (Dell U2312HM) to go with my Gateway DX 4720. My problem is how to hook them up. The monitor has DVI and VGA inputs while the Gateway has VGA and HDMI inputs. Of course, I could simply go VGA to VGA; but as this is analog. Would it be as good as going DVI (monitor) to DVI-HDMI adapter to HDMI (computer) which would be digital communication?

I would go digital all the way. Digital will mean no loss in visual quality through a converter, but your latency may suffer slightly. Probably not enough to notice though.

Thanks all. As I already have the DVI cable, and I now know (for sure) that using a DVI to HDMI adapter will work (give me a digital signal to the monitor), I'll just get an adapter and be done with it, eh?
