DVI vs HDMI

Hi all, i'm looking for a new 24" monitor and I just have a question. what gives better picture quality, DVI or DHMI? or is it the same?

They are both exactly alike. The difference is that HDMI can carry audio as well.

as can dvi if your hardware supports it.

i have a dvi output on my video card with an hdmi input on my receiver. i get crystal clear audio with the cable.

my preference would be dvi but dont let that be a hindrence. either would work, just make sure its a shielded cable.

Yep, absolutely. Most recent video cards can indeed output audio thru DVI, but in general DVI is not audio-capable.

no need to generalize, its completely dependent on your hardware and cable used. there are multiple types of dvi cables on the market which complicates things.

either its compatible or its not.

I may be the minority here, but I'm all for them doing away with DVI and going HDMI exclusively. Heck, you can even use it for ethernet these days. Take that DVI!
