Hy.

My knowledge about PC parts has been decreased since i ignored the industry in the last years, thus asking for your help. I like to build my PC for future proofing, like i did with the one i own.
I have read over the internet that DX12 is arriving. Heard a rumor that the next series of video cards are going to be DX12 compatible.
My question is, it it worth the wait? I want to build a new PC this fall, mid spec, i5 CPU and 960 or above video card. I am in no hurry whatsoever to acquire the parts. I play at 1080p, and i think that anything above 960 will do with medium to high settings. The acquisition can be delayed by a few months to a year. The parts will be bought monthly, as i already have a working PC and it's easier. Might buy the video card last, i already have a working one.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Maxwell 2.0 cards are already Direct X 12.1 compatible and capable of hardware level utilization of dx12 features like conservative rasterization , rasterizer ordered views. These cards are: GTx 960, 970, 980 and titan- x.
For future proofing i would get a 3,5-4gb card because games are already using more than 2gb videoram on high settings 1080p, and this will increase with time. I could name at least 5 games what i play and uses 3,5-4gb vram on 1080p ultra now.

For the rest of the rig i'd probably still ignore DDR4, and go with an lga 1150 socket z97 chipset board with DDR3 and haswell refresh cpu.

@ ionut18: I suggest you follow your own sound advice and wait, DX12 and Win 10 should be released Q3 this year, possibly Q4 and AMD have some new parts in the pipeline, probably being released during Computex this June so by the time you're thinking of ordering parts the landscape will have changed quite a bit.

Good call from sz0ty0I4, but again, things change, perhaps by Q4 this year it'll be wiser to opt for a DDR4/2011 platform, but right now and for most users the setup suggested by him is the best available.
