Hi

First off sorry if this is the wrong posting for this section of the forum, please re-direct if this is the case.

Right as the title says i seem to be getting a MAJOR decrease in FPS when playing games in DX10 for example. All res on games set to 1280x1024

Crysis: V. high

DX 10 - 10-20 FPS
DX 9 (Very High Mod) - 25 - 35 (looks exactly the same as the DX 10 V high)

even if the settings are set to low on DX 10 on crysis my FPS only increases by 3 lol?

Why is this?

Also running the RE5 Benchmark

Max setting with 8X AA

DX 10 - 20-45 FPS
DX 9 - 60 FPS

Why am i experiencing this problem?

my friends does not notice any FPS drop when changing from DX9 to DX 10

My specs:

64-bit Windows Vista Home Basic
AMD 9950 phenom 125w Black Edtion (quad-core)
Sony DVD+RW
Alphapower 1050watt
HIS Radeon HD 4870
Asrock 780gxh (780g chipset, with Crossfire support AM3 CPU ready, FSB 2600)
4gb Patriot 800mhz DDR2

Thank you in Advance.

Regards

Sean

DX10 adds a lot of details over DX9, hence the fps decrease.

also it might be worth upgrading that CPU to a Phenom II, and maybe get a Corsair, Antec, OCZ or PCP&C PSU. And you don't need 1000w, more like 500w.

Thank you for your reply, i personally do not believe it is hardware based.

is anyone else expericening this kind of proplem if so what is the cause of it and how can it be "fixed"

Regards

in a way you are right , since there is nothing wrong with your hardware

but its well understood that DX10 is more demanding and that fps will drop below the level of DX9 in the same game

If you want DX10 and better fps then buy more powerful hardware as suggested by helloworld

Well of course i could do with better hardware, mine is of course not the best out there but the hardware i have should have no problem running these games in DX10 now my question is why am i experiecing such differ in FPS?

like ive said, my friend is running slightly weaker hardware then me and he does not experience any FPS difference.

Does anyone have an explanation to why that is?

ok look m8, you need to have an open mind. one 4870 is NOT enough to run crysis on DX10. its just your hardware, with another 4870 the story would change quite a bit. other games however are differant. like on stalker cs, my comp lags quite a bit on DX9, but with DX10, i get quite a boost in fps. strange but just happens...

crysis is one of those games that the majority cannot max out. just accept it, your comp isnt tough enough, mine isnt either

my apologies

trying to help you was a mistake
