Aye toms, Good day
I have an MSI r9 380 4gb, And i wonder if dx12 will make amd cards last abit longer? And will they make games prior to dx12 support it, Will they just give a dx12 launcher for games prior to dx12?
Only new games built to utilize DX12 will actually give the full benefits, but games patched for it will have some improvement. And yes it will make any AMD card from HD7000 series and after last quite a bit longer.

1) will it make amd cards a bit longer? Maybe the answer for now is...not necessarily? And when it comes to low level stuff (mantle or DX12) tonga (285/380/380X) have always seen quite conficted with it. In the past 285 can be slower in mantle (BF4/BF Hardline). And with DX12 anandtech mention in their Ashes of singularity test that 285 actually have much lower performance in DX12. and in some early bench for the new hitman 380 also takes hit going to DX12. HardOCP have some speculation on this matter aftwr doing their own test:
2) will game prior to dx12 be made to support dx12? Very unlikely. Unless developer said so. And this dx12 stuff is eeally complicated actually. It is not simply patch the game to 'support' dx12. Hitman dev hint that if you want to fully take advantage of DX12 you need to develop your games for DX12 only. The reason that dev still need to creare dx11 cersion of their game (so they can sold them to older version of windows) probably one of the reason why the result of DX12 we see right now is underwhelming.
