dxdiag not showing dx12 on gtx 1080

Hi all, I bought a iChill gtx 1080, but nowhere on my pc actually states it is direct x12. On dxdiag it states gtx 1080 dx11. Also I noticed on a game I played earlier (cant remember which) the dx12 option was grayed out. I also tried 3D Mark time spy and it stated that my device is not compatible.
I payed over £600 for the gtx 1080, and would hate to have to RMA, please help, I'm a Dumbo at this sort of thing.

Hi, I'm using Windows 7 ultimate

That would be the reason then. DirectX12 is only available in Windows 10.

Oh, I see. Is there no way around this, because I tried windows 10 and hated it.

No. There is no way around it. If you want DirectX12, you need to install Windows 10.

Thank you for your help, at least now I know its not my gpu, so windows 10 here I come again
