Hi there Mr1911Gamer,

You can start with testing the drive with WD's DLG tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=6Jqt1h
It the drive passes the test, you should consider what kenrivers tried to suggest. Most probably you will need to two different drives(one for playing games on and another one for the recording). If you have another drive, you can try that. If you don't you can just borrow from somebody and try it. If the stutter is gone, you will be a hundred percent sure that it is not some kind of software/driver issue.

I would start by examining the SMART report with a tool such as CrystalDiskInfo.

http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskInfo/index-e.html

Look for reallocated, pending, or uncorrectable sectors.

If the report looks bad, then I would perform a full surface scan with a tool such as HDDScan (Windows) or MHDD (DOS). These tools will identify any "slow" sectors, ie those that are difficult to read. In a Windows environment I would disable any background tasks that may interfere with the testing (eg antivirus).
