I have been using both Dxtory and Fraps for over a year now, and I need to make a final decision to use just one as my primary recording device. I know that Dxtory has more features, such as recording microphone and system audio into separate tracks, but settings can sometimes be a hassle. On top of that, it seems that Dxtory causes more lag while recording than Fraps. Is this because I'm recording on a 1080p monitor and recording in 720p? And if I recorded in 1080p (my monitor's resolution) would that reduce the lag? I'm not sure which one to choose, and I heard that Dxtory is best used for computers with higher specs, is this true? Thanks.
I've tried several: Action!, PlayClaw5, MSI Afterburner (no 64 bit support), Ezvid. Aside from MSI Afterburner not working at all, the others were very buggy. Action! seemed ok at first but it would not cooperate so it is uninstalled. I now only use FRAPS for getting FPS average and find recording with it really hits FPS. Dxtory has thus far been the best although does involve a bit more of a learning curve.
This is the most informative tutorial I've found yet for Dxtory, very thorough:

Thank you! I have seen this video before, and I have followed the entire tutorial, however, it is almost a year old now, and some things are outdated, new options have been implemented, and things have been changed a lot in the program, so I don't really know where else to go!
There is a new version.

I don't see that many changes other than improvements in the code etc. and bug fixes. What would you say is outdated?
Have you done a hdd speed test lately? Do you use a separate hdd to record?
I use 29.97 mainly for posting to Youtube. If you want less lag, 60 fps can be used but you'll have a huge file and must have a fast hdd. Although I like the simplicity of FRAPS, IMO it costs more FPS than Dxtory, and FRAPS has no scaling option.
Question: if you have both, why are you asking which one you should stay with?
