Hello all,

I have a question about replaceing a windows dll file before a computer harddive totaly dies so i can recover some files.

I was in the middle of using a comp and it restarted on me. BAM drive started acting up after this and its on the brink of death. Well here is what it does now. After a power up it tells me the drive is bad and to press F1. After pressing F1 it attemps to run windows and fails with a message telling me a dll file is corrupt and should be replaced. Im unsure of how to do this. I cant use the drive as a slave in a different comp it ends up crashing the system tray and locking up 'My Computer' when i try to read it. HOWEVER, it does show the drive, although, oddly it doesnt show the drive size? If i boot from a windows CD with the drive under question...im not sure how to use the windows repair commands to copy off the dll i need. Any suggestions? :?:

Any and all help is absolutly greatful.

Thanks.

If you have a fried drive, the best thing you can do it to try and get your data off. If you can't read it in windows, I doubt copying a file to it (if you could) is going to magically restore it to glory.

http://www.spinrite.com/ might be able to help you. I uses dos, so gets around windows not working or missing files.

Good luck...
