Dying

Just a small question. I've almost finished the first Myst - I've had to
leave it a while, as I got frustrated when my computer crashed, and I had to
do two whole ages again - one three times....

So, I've yet to complete any books, etc - still collecting - so take my
knowledge as zero (I say this from the point of view of spoilers - thanks
😱))

My question is - is it possible to "die" in any of these games? That is, is
it possible to make a mistake from which you cannot extricate yourself? I'm
not asking particularly wishing it to be one of the other, but am merely
curious!

Many thanks,

You never die as a result of, for example, failing a jump or falling over a
cliff. However all the games contain decision points where the wrong
decision can terminate the game prematurely or differently. These decision
points are pretty obvious so it's a good idea to save your game before
committing. Also this allows you to try all the different possibilities.

There are, as I remember, 3 possible endings, only one of which is
satisfying, so save the game often as you get near the end. You may want to
go back and rethink a decision...

Mm, and I certainly want to experience as many different possibilities as I
can... thanks for the advice 😱)

Oo, you have me itchin' to do that....

Fine....fine. I'll try and find time to complete it (unlikely for a couple
of weeks).

Oh, one final question. I've found that if I save it partway through an
Age, it restores right at the beginning of that Age - as if I have done
nothing... Is this supposed to happen, or pehaps a compatibility bug with
XP? 😱S Frustrating....

I think you're supposed to restore to the beginning of the age, but iirc
changes you made to the age should remain.
