I did everything suggested in other threads, but E Z Flash STILL won't see the .CAP file. I used a 512k drive, formatted with FAT 32, my file is renamed to 8 characters, and while E Z Flash sees the drive, it won't list the .CAP file - only shows directories. I plan on reinstalling Windows 7, and wanted to have the most current BIOS (the board is about 6 updates behind) before installing Windows 7 again. I tried using the Asus utility to update the BIOS, but no matter what option I select, it never connects (I waited 3 hours one time)

Motherboard: Asus M5A99X EVO

UPDATE: I renamed the .CAP file as a .ROM file. Now the Utility sees it, but when I select it, the Utility says it is not a BIOS file!! WTF? Well, I'm done trying to get this to work. I have no option but to leave it and reinstall Windows 7 with it as it is 🙁

I am having a lot of issues which may or may not be board related. Lots of crashes in games and some programs like CorelDraw, blue screen instability, and other issues that I've had since day one. Now that I have Windows 10, I have a lot more. I plan to go back to Windows 7, so I wanted to be sure that I had the most recent BIOS. I've updated BIOS files since 1986 with the old Intel 80386 systems, and never once bricked a board. According to the notes on the BIOS files, most of the last 4 updates fix instability issues. Well, that's what I'm having.

did you get the right bios ?? be sure you got the one for your board and its proper revision I see theres a evo rev 2

evo

evo rev 2 [wow 15 bios 's ?? how unstable is that thing ?? ]

Well, there's at least 5 or 6 updates since 2012, when I got the computer. I've always had occasional blue screens and crashes since day one, but since Windows 10, it's about double. The blue screens went away, but the crashes and instability have continued. I just want to reinstall with the most current BIOS file, to lessen my chances for problems to continue. They still might, but I can eliminate that as the reason.

all I know is my ''last'' 3 asus were my ''last'' same thing never stable 2x as many bios updates as any other brands like boards - there guys in reviews now seeing this with there asus boards and ask why so many bios updates for them ''improve stability''

I had a am3+ sabertooth and it now in the trash it was never right and replaced it [rma then rma with asus ] I spent more time tinkering with it then I did enjoying it I think it got to like 18 bios updates and they droped it and came out with a rev2 that was not much better

funny thing after I gotit my buddy like it [still in the box] and ordered him one and he got rid of it as well replaced it with a giga 990fx ud3 that's still going for him today

needless to say he was a true blue asus guy and his mind got changed I feel asus is more on hype then quality these days and not the same asus I grew up with

So, what did you replace that board with? I've heard lots of good things about Gigabyte....is that what you went with?

Well, I appreciate the info. I may go with a different manufacturer next time.

no I ditched AMD for my first time ever and got a asrock z87 board and a 4670 chip and reused the rest off the am3+ parts on it I just could not see reinvesting any more in the platform and like now its near 6 years old ? no point buying the past today

my buddy went with a gigabuyr ud3 990fx seems happy with it but I cant say ditching AMD was a bad move and this intel slaped togather fine fired up stable first boot and had not had to touch it [still on its first release bios] and had to do nothing but come in here and fire it up and use it all day with out issue

that's just how it went with me maybe I got lucky that time with the intel build ??
