e2160 oc mistery,question for pro clockers :)

Here are my specs. e2160 conroe stepping D revision M0
MSI Neo2 FR bios v1.6
Corsair ddr2 dhx cooler CL4
Zalman 9700 NT

My problem:
I can get to 3Ghz stable only with 1.5vcore to 3.2 with 1.6vcore.
I tried everything: changed the memories,increasing all voltages:NB SB ... lowering the multiplier and upping the fsb, tryed 5-5-5-18 timings.
I think the mobo is ok because it goes 450fsb without problem.The memories are okay.
The CPU is very voltage hungry, at 9x333 i have to use 1.5vcore,at 9x355 i have to use 1.6 to get stable,but with 1.6 the cpu is getting 78 degrees.

SO,WHY IS MY CPU SO POWER HUNGRY?

my E6320 needs 1.4625 volt to get 400*7, 1.525 get 420*7. both setting pass prime 95 4hrs.
switch to x3210 1.2000 volt pass 400*8. 1.2875 get 425*8.
both pass prime 95 4hrs.
every cpu is different, some are great OC such as xeon chip, it is amazing. Some is just so bad.
can you try to use 8 multi? it may help.

My E2180 @ 3Ghz (9x333Mhz) needs about 1.4125V(IN BIOS) to be prime stable. I believe you should be able to get 3Ghz without 1.5V whether it be in the BIOS or a cpu-z reading. Funny thing is though I needed 1.53125V to get 3.2Ghz 6 hours prime stable. Big leap in voltage for such a small gain. I would stick with 3Ghz with 9x333. Make sure you RAM is getting the right amount of voltage, some people have a hard time for some reason setting it correctly. Also I would leave all timings on auto for memory as well. Make sure you have PCI-E @ 100Mhz exact, turn off power saving features, etc, try running memtest86+ as well.

i have tried 8x mulitplier...even better results.
1.47 volts are orthos stable with 9x333 for 20 minutes, 1.48 volts for about 2 hours, and 1.5 stable !!
Now i'am facing a new problem, sometimes i get blue screen in vista,and i can't figure out the reason,i'am orthos stable,memtest with 0 errors, prime stable...I think it is a driver problem related to my vidcard,or some other drivers...the error mostly occurs when downloading with bitcomet, or watching online videos with internet explorer...
If somebody knows about these things please reply

Maybe try running memtest86+? You should be able to run 12+hours with no errors, not even 1. You'll have to make a bootable CD/USB drive(I used USB) with DOS and run it.

I think i solved the problem,i putted the memories incorrectly(in single chanel mode)and that caused the problem, now the Blue Death disappeared :lol:
In this kind of msi mobo to put the memos in dual chanel you have to put the memos in differrent colors( one in the orange slot1,and one in the green slot1).
I always had asus mobos and with asus mobos dual chanel is the same color,so that is the origin of my error.Now cpu doesent need so much Vcore, but i don't say anithing because i'am at preliminary testing only

The ram slot change solved the instability problem, but the cpu is still power hungry

9x333=3ghz at Vcore 1.5... can't go further because i have to raise the vcore to almost 1.6 to be stable at 3.2ghz

Stick with 3Ghz, after all it is only a $80 CPU 😛. I'd call it good there.

Not only that if it makes you feel better I paid $10 more for my E2180 and was only satisfied with 3Ghz

I just think that 8*400 is better than 9*333. I have e2160 and asus p5k and xms2 800@4-4-4-12 2t and is it so that at the same 3,2ghz that 1600fsb is better due bigger bandwidht than 1333fsb???
Am i wrong or have I thought this right?

sorry..of course i ment 9*355 and 1420..just got confused of all these numbers cause i'm new to oc and i have read all these different forums and...you know.

you cant get above 3.2Ghz without really pushing your vcore above 1.55v.
