E2160 + P5Q PRO Overclocking Help!

Hi im new to overclocking and i have been reading up on the overclock guides around here at tomshardware and various other sites. to find full facts of what my ram / motherboard / cpu / graphics / psw can really do.


But im getting pretty stuck at the clock speed i have at the moment and am rather confused, So i have came to ask you guys for some help or some outline guided help to get this computer overclock stable and working nicely.

STOCK CLOCK 1.8GHZ ( I have it clocked at 3.1GHZ ) NOT STABLE

The FSB Wont go past 1449, I put it on 400MHZ FSB Strap and it doesnt post.

Well im currently running this equipment:

Mercury 500WATT ( NON railed PSW )
Asus P5Q Pro Motherboard
Intel E2160 - 800FSB
250GB MAXTOR HDD
Zalman 9700 CPU Cooler ( INTEL )
2 X 120MM Fans
2 x 80 MM Fans
3 Blowing in, 1 extracting out the front on a XSILENCER Case
ATI 4650 <-- NOT CROSSFIRED YET.
Corsair XMS 6400 800MHZ NON E.P.P Ram

Operating System : Windows Vista Ulimate

Idle temps : 32-35'c
LOAD TEMPS 50-59'c

BIOS Settings:

Modded 1104 Kentxx Bios ( FOR INCREASE RAM Performance )
A.I Tuner : Manual
FSB : 333
FSB STRAP : 333 / <-- This is my RAM Divider
CPU Multiplyier : 0.9
Ram is currently running at a 5:6 Ratio ( 400MHZ ) 5-5-5-18 ( DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 )

Voltage Settings:

Vcore 1.48652
FSB Termination 1.30
NB 1.40
SB 1.20
Rest on AUTO


I am looking for a stable 1:1 Ratio for ram with a high overclock <-- If this is possible at all. Or i am looking for a 400MHZ ram 3.0 - 3.2GHZ overclock with stable and low voltages. I have ram prime95 for 12 hours and it crashed after 4 hours on the worker thread #2

Your image links aren't working

You may want to try and lower your CPU multi to 6, then increase your FSB. This will enable you to eliminate your CPU speed as cause for instability, and focus on your system stability. If your system still does not boot, or have instability then it is something with your mem, NB voltage, etc.

I would go back to a original Bios, and get a new PSU, one of those is likely the problem.

As far as I know FSB Strap isn`t your ram divider, even very far from it so I`d leave it on auto, especially if you have problems already.

Well i have the FSB strap to 333 at the moment, and i cannot push this computer past the 3.2ghz mark, I know that CPUS can only reach a certian ammount but i want to at least try and get my ram to be 1:1 ratio. i pushed more volts into it and restarted but did not post.

Im always getting to 1449MHZ FSB and it just dies out on me.. But i see every CPU i have looked at ( e2160 ) Be clocked at 3.4ghz no matter what brand / Stepping it has.


Hmm i take that as this cpu doesnt push any futher? or its a motherboard FSB wall?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but if you want a 1:1 ratio between the cpu and memory; you double the cpu frequency for the dram frequency.

ie: cpu frequency you say is 333, so dram frequency should be 667

I may be on the wrong path here, but hope that helps

Yeah i know about that.. but the ram is DDR 800's

Seriously though, get a quality PSU (Corsair, PP&C, Antec, OCZ) ASAP. Your Mercury PSU is a time bomb.

Do you think that my cpu is not being used to the fullest because of the lower watt power supply i have ?
