E2180 OC problem

I have ASUS P5K-VM (1600fsb edition), 2gb ddr2 667mhz ram and Pentium dual core E2180, i am easily hitting 3.4ghz with 340x10 on 1.53vcore (below this vcore system gets unstable), problem is that i am not being able to pass 3.4ghz.
My question is which thing is limiting my OC , is my 667mhz or motherboard but on internet i saw people hitting easily with this G33 chipset, but they are using better memories. So will changing my ram to some 800mhz will help for hitting 3.8ghz atleast?

i want to add this info too, that i am also not being able to pass 340fsb means i cannot use 400x9 for 3.6ghz and currently i am using this bios.

1. Your vCore is WAYYYYY too high. Intel defines ABSOLUTE MAX voltage for 45nm at 1.45v.

2. Your DDR2 667 RAM is a limitation above FSB 1333 (aka 333)

3. The E2180 needs a hell of a lot of voltage above 3.3Ghz, the extra speed isn't that noticeable in most apps/games. If you want 4Ghz, then get a E8400 when the prices drop.

4. Temps with P95 load?

5. Your board isn't that great either.

PS: Kill all of that start up cr@p like the Intel Graphics,uTorrent,etc. Btw, WTH do you have BOTH the ATI AND Intel Graphics drivers installed?!?!?

The highest I got my E2180 was 3.8Ghz at 1.792v: http://hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=888121
That was on WCing and was P95 unstable.

E2180 is 65nm, and can handle 1.53v fine.

The problem is probably not just your board, typical E2180 will top out around 3.5ghz.

If you want 3.8ghz, look into getting the new E6300.

Yes, i own hd4830, but now a days i am using g33 chipset because my psu did volt trip and it is in warranty, so i am using ordinary 300w psu and for hd4830 i dont think it is enuf, thats why not taking risk.

If you want 3.8ghz, look into getting the new E6300.

Buying E6300 will not give me much rise in performance as e2180 can go to 4ghz (on after market cooler) and E6300 can maxed 4.2ghz, so not much performance diff when OC is main confern, but yes for stock E6300 is way faster.

That e2180 is as good as it gets with out removing the ihs since cheaptel used ordenary thermal compound rather than solder and found out it is the same with my e7200 which topped out 3.58ghz at 1.32v.

I am not beng able to make out what actually are you saying bro, means e2180 cannot go above 3.4ghz on any ram? or some good OC ram like XMS will do the job for me to atleast 3.8ghz? If yes then i will soon buy a after market cooler like CM Hyper TX2.

I got it to 3.6ghz stable, but at 1.55v. If you're not sure if ram is the problem, do this:

Lower your CPU mulitplier, raise your FSB and memory speed has far as you can, test for stability. This will determine at what speed your DDR2 667mhz ram can run at.

My mistake, yes, 65nm can handle 1.55v ABSOLUTE MAX, as defined by Intel. I was thinking of the E8xxx lol.

Higher fsb more than 340 isnot working, i have tried 400x9 and 400x8, both not working , thats why i am conscious about ram.

Your ram CPU and motherboard all top out around 330 FSB, I used alot of 2180s in the day and 330 was pretty much the best I ever could get stable without frying the CPU. To go higher you need a CPU with a higher multi, like the e3200s I use now which are tons faster then 2180, or you need a new motherboard and ram and CPU, your current motherboard and CPU will not go no more. Back that vcore down and be happy at 3.2-3.3. I run the e3200s @ 3.6 on stock cooling on lots of rigs, it has a 12x multi or you could get the e3300 for even higher multi.

LOL e3200 which cpu is that? i know you are talking about E5200, right?

come on man plz dont suggest me a celeron for gaming my e2180 is much much better than it i am sure. But yes i understood u are giving me the example of higher multiplier cpus like E5200 (12.5)

Thank you freinds, i understood that moving from dual core to dual core will not help much , even if i move to E8400 it will OC to 4ghz max which is too not moe than 50% of difference as compared with mine E2180 @ 3.33ghz, i will upgrade to some Quad core in future. Until then i am very much satisfied with my E2180 @ 3.33ghz. Combinely with HD4830 it gives me 40 fps in GTA4 benchmakrs on all high except textures 1680 x 1050 resolution and 39 fps on full HD with same configuration which is nice.
