E3-1230V2 vs. i5-3570

I'm a gamer,and I saw that the prices for the two were pretty close at my neighbourhood's hardware shop(Xmas promotion).Obviously,I won't be Overclocking,so which is better?Please state the reasons why and how is one better than the other.Thanks in advance and Merry Christmas!

The e3-1230v2 is a server chip that may not even fit in some desktop boards. It may also require ecc ram, which costs more. Stick with the 3570 which works on most 1155 boards and with almost any 1.35-1.5v non ecc ddr3 ram, which is cheap. These chipsets should work with the 3570 without a bios update: H77, B75, z75 and z77.

The e3-1230v2 works with regular desktop Asrock boards.. check the Asrock website, I got the H77 for $60... @newegg
No bios update was needed...its been running flawless for over a month. I also read they work with all brand z77 boards, but some of those boards ie: Asus and MSI, may require bios updates...

the e3-1230v2 sells on sale for about $220 shipped online. @superbiiz



The chip also uses regular desktop memory, it does not require ECC ram. 8 gigs 1600 is about $30 online right now. @newegg

The e3-1230v2 performs the same as an i7-3770, but does not have the integrated graphics processor (IGP). Most people do not use the IGP, unless their dedicated graphics card is dead. You can also buy a $15 video card if you feel you really need the back up.

If the price is the same then get the e3-1230v2..,, but if you can get the 3570K motherboard combo from microcenter you'll save over the e3-1230v2 setup... I don't have a microcenter nearby so I got the e3-1230v2

My chip's auto turbo boost keeps the chip at 3.7GHz on my Corsair H60 cooler... my passmark score is over 10,000...all stock settings, just a corsair cooler.
