e4400 Overclocking Help

I made a topic before but it didn't really solve my questions.

So, I currently have an e4400 @ 3.0ghz (300x10). And my memory is 2x1gb Geil Ultra DDR2-800 @798mhz.

Anyways, I've read around about the FSB😀RAM ratio and all that, and how it should be 1:1. Well, mine is currently 3:4. I'm still kind of unsure on how all this math works out; so far I only have the FSBxMultiplier=CPU Speed, and that's about it, lol.
I've read the C2D tutorial, but there's still some kinks that I want to work out.

First off, I need help overclocking my RAM. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I can't get it to anything above 798mhz (399mhz). This may be because of my 300x10 multiplier, I don't know. The SPD multiplier for my DS3 is set to 2.66, but 2.5 or 2.0 just causes the DS3 to do it's famous double restart and reset. I was thinking of doing 375x8, see if that did anything.

Secondly, how does the FSB😀RAM ratio work? I want to achieve a 1:1 ratio.

Anyways, if I think of any other questions, I'll post em here.
Once I start getting the ratios squared away, I'm going to set all my voltages to manual instead of auto so I don't get anything weird, but so far my DS3's auto vcore has been working very well. It keeps it at 1.39 vcore, and I haven't seen it jump around or anything awkward.

as long as your in 1/4 steps i think you find - memory is 1:2 fsb 1500 and ddr750 lets say

rarely is it 1;1 like a stock e6600 at 1066 with killer pc8500 ram - well now ram is cheap so maybe

there is a small latency but i think it really is minor and really only measureable when you have odd ratio's

this is odd. I set my voltage settings to manual, set DDR2 to +.02, and my CPU voltage to normal (1.325), and CPU-Z and Everest is reporting 1.296/1.3 volts when idling, and 1.264 under load. I read something about the DS3 doing this vdroop. But as long as it's stable I'm fine with it.
I'm currently going to do a stress test for each core, and on the ram for the rest of the night. So I have 3 copies of Orthos running at the same time, lol.

I also got my RAM overclocked to 450mhz (DDR2-900) finally, with timings of 5-5-5-15 2T, ratio is 2:3. I couldn't get it to DDR2-999 however; probably because i need to feed it more juice :O . I also have my NB at stock volts, so I guess that's good. The lower the volts the better. 😀

This undervoltage while at 3.0ghz seems too good to be true however....

Default DDR2 voltage is 1.8v

And Newegg doesn't have the exact same ram, but the Ultra-1066 is rated for 2.4-2.5v, and some of the Geil DDR2-800 shows 1.9-2.5v

But check it out yourself before pushing it that high.

Specs say 1.9-2.4v.
I can't remember but I think I set the DDR2 voltage to .2, not .02. I'm not sure. I'll check next time.

But I got a BSOD during the Orthos tests. No errors during the streest test though. I jumped voltage up to 1.34, but CPU-Z and Everest are reporting 1.31 voltage when idling, 1.29/1.3 volts under load. I may do that Ink mod, but I don't want to end up screwing up my new computer, so I'll probably pass on that. I guess I'm just going to have to overvolt until it reaches 1.325 volts lol.

EDIT: I set it to 1.4 volts and it reads 1.36 idle/1.34 load. When It was set to auto vcore it stayed at a constant 1.39. I might leave it at auto vcore. Besides, I trust my DS3. 😀

EDIT2: I set it to 1.46 volts and now its reading 1.42 idle/1.41 load, so I'm happy for now. Now I just gotta see why my PCMark05 score was so low, only like 5,000, i got like 10,000 before so something I did in the BIOS changed something. Maybe it was because I had undervolted.

hey there been reading your posts and saw you have a ds3 too is it the p965? I have that motherboard and have noticed CPUz reporting that too (the lower voltage).. thought it was weird especially when people are overclocking there e4400 upto 3ghz and i was setting mine at 1.4v in the bios but wouldn't boot 🙁 i have mine running on 2.8 at apparently 1.38 volts (cant remember what CPUz says) might explain why it wasn't booting i'm going to have to try when i'm back home bumping the voltage up or might set it to auto and see what happens. 😀

I've got some questions though!:
are you using the stock cooler?
when you have it on manual voltages do you adjust only the core voltage?
what temps are you getting reported?


A tip for you why your score might be so low:

Is your PCI-E FSB set to auto in MIT or is it set to 100mhz, i was getting 70fps in 06 at the start and then set that to auto and dropped to 20fps!

However i did have it happen again and i thought it was having double chipset drivers installed i formatted and tried again still bang low fps so i cleared the cmos started again and bang score was back up, having no idea what i had done differently.

Perhaps its a gigabyte thing there working on !?
