hey

for my mobo, i went to the bios, and changed the fsb to 230. i left the voltage at auto, was that the right thing to do? also, how how do you think it can get to, and what kind of things do i have to tweak?

If you want to push it anymore you may have to play with the northbridge voltage, under clock your ram if you hit its limit, along with increasing the Vcore voltage. You should be fine with the voltage set to auto, but it might not supply enough power for finding your highest stable overclock. Run CPU-Z to see what voltage your cpu is at and run OCCT stress test to make sure it is stable.

There are of course numerous other things that I could mention but I tried to keep this post as short as possible, it didn't work out that way.

Its C1E at work(power saving feature) that drops the multiplier to 6 when cpu is idle, start any program and you will see it go back to 12.5.

I got my e5200 up to 4ghz playing with Vcore only, I keep it at 3.6ghz though because its more than enough for my use and it takes a lot of voltage to run it in the 3.8 - 4.0 range.

It's from the Intel C1E which drops your cpu multiplier to 6 to down clock it and save power. You should really read the thread that linked you to. Yes I know it's long but is worth reading so you can understand this stuff better.

C1E – Intel’s so-called enhanced halt state. Read Anandtech’s blurb about it here for more. Disable initially, enable later on and see if the system remains stable. This is a power savings option.

i have it going at fsb 266, and the speeds now 3.325 MHz @ 1.3V

i think i should lower the voltage a little but im not sure

e5200 chips love the voltage, i had one that did 3.7 ghz @ 1.38V (24/7), the same chip did 4.0ghz @ 1.45v, i sold that chip because i think it was cursed....the temps were very high, and i have a very good watercooling setup that would control it hardly.

 

Mind if I ask for the Water cooling set up specs?

Hi, for watercooling i am using swiftech gtz waterblock, Danger den d5 fixed speed pump, 1/2 inch tygon tubing, XSPC RX360 radiator, 3 x delta fans running @ 7v (120x38mm), for coolant i am using distilled water + additives


this is what happend
my e5200 ran @ 4.0ghz. Under prime 95 small fft the temp went to 68-70
my q9550 runs @ 3.9-4.0 Temps under intel burn test never go above 57C and 52C under prime 95 small FFT.

Intel burn test is much more harder on the cpu then prime 95, i didnt even bother to run the intel test on my e5200 as surely it would hit 80-85C.

My E5200 is running at 3.75 GHz at 1.38 volts with only an old ACF7P. Temps are only at 60 C. Strange. It's the first time I have hit the voltage limit before I reached the thermal limit. Of course my other two chips are C2Q's.

lol hehe, you are lucky man, mine performed so bad. I could feel my whole room heating up. and this was with almost 300$ watercooling lol, and the funny thing is i encountered this temp problem with another chip, the e4500. i had my e4500 clocked @ 3.5ghz (1.38v) and temps were 60C with a different but good watercooling setup

Nice set up. Yeah, you really should have been getting better performance than that. Was the CPU lapped? If it wasn't that would explain a lot. I had a Q6600 paired to the GTZ and under P95 it reached 56C. After lapping came down to 42C under P95 load.

Hi, yes the cpu was lapped with (200/400/600/1000 grit sand paper), i have noticed that the e4xxx, e5xxx chips do not have a bowed top, they are very flat and my gtz is also very flat, i think it was a contact issue, on the other hand my quad core has a bowed top that makes very good contact with my waterblock, but everytime i would check my e5xxx chip for contact it would appear normal (thermalpaste spread normal)
