E5200 with P45-UD3L

Hi All

I am a complete newbie in Overclocking and would like to push my system to the limit with stability. PLease let me know how should i start.


My System:

MB: P45-UD3L
CPU: e5200
Ram: 4gb DDR2 800 CL6
GPU: HD4650
Cooler: Vandetta2


Please let me know how my BIOS should be set.

Ok i made some progress to 3.35GHz

With Vcore increased to 1.33, FSB to 266 and Multi 12.5X

Ran Prime 95 for two hours CPU temp seems to locked at Max 56-60C without any problem.

Is there any other way i make any improvement ?

I would like get to 3.6 if possible

Any help appreciated.

Did you try higher fsb? Its best to have fsb:ram ratio set to 1:1 so you dont overclock your ram beyond spec. Im not sure how do you set it on gigabyte board as i never owned one(it might be the 2.00 option). My e5200 hits 3.6ghz with ease(I run it at 300x12 though), and im yet to see a post where someone has trouble with reaching that speed.

i agree. My last E5200 was running 3.125 with stock vcore and stock cooling on a cheap mini ATX Asus mobo (dont remeber wich one).

Yor P45 can handle this without any trouble. Just take the FSB to 300 and have some fun !

What cooling did you use .. ?

Settings are similer on all Gigabyte boards.

Hi,

I made further improvement.

Now setting FSB to 300 with 12.5 multi and Vcore set to 1.45 (1.42 after vdrop) resulting 3.75GHz.

Testing on going ton prime95 for almost an hour now with no problem (yet)

Max temp is 72C.

My question is :

1. is that safe with that temperature ?
2. Some people seems prefer higher FSB with less multi. Whats the difference ?
3. Whats the safe line vCore for e5200 ?

I am using Vandetta cool btw with normal room temperature (maybe a bit high since its summer).

1. Should be safe, but certainly seems high to me. My E5300 is just over 50 at 3.4GHz.
2. No difference.
3. Keep it under 1.4V.

wow would you share how do achieve that ?

I don't mind "pushing" my CPU a bit hotter as long as it worth it. Maybe to 3.8-3.9 :lol:

As for giving you the "settings" we can't do that as each OC is unique.

General settings for 3.5Ghz on E5200:
FSB: 280
RAM: 1:1/SPD2
Multi: 12.5
Vcore: 1.33-1.36v

As for hints/tips:

Try increasing GMCH for stability.
Lock PCIe at 100Mhz
Keep SPD at 2. Relax RAM timing if OCing above 400Mhz FSB.

2. Its already locked since day 1 😀
3. Whats SPD2 ? if its ram ratio mine is set@ 2.00D
4. is my Vcore too high at 1.42 (after vdrop) ?
