Wait, what's your motherboard first? If that motherboard doesn't even have a vCore setting, I'd get the E7300. Just my honest opinion though.

just build a computer for a friend, i OCed his 5200@3.125 on stock cooler whit no increase to the vcore. Temp are about the same as stock .. ++1 E5200 !

+1 for the E5200 + S1283 (Note: Dark Knight performs lower than S1283 http://www.frostytech.com/top5heatsinks.cfm#INTELHEATSINK )
If getting S1283 don't forget the bolt in kit.

Couple of degrees, not significant.
See: http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=2233&page=4
The S1283 was 14.2C over ambient with 125W heat load wile the Freezer 64 Pro was 23.2C over ambient with 125W heat load. I wouldn't call a 9C difference a little difference. I would call 2-3C a little difference. Not to mention with higher heat loads the difference is MUCH more.

7400th Post!

I've got an e5200 in an ASUS P5Q Pro, I'm running, 4.16GHz with a Coolermaster Hyper TX2. Temps below 45C.

Best purchase I've ever made.

I don't completely believe frostytech's charts, especially since the TRUE is not number one. Every other review I've seen puts TRUE as first, with ACF7P not too far behind. Also, an E5200 is nowhere near 125W.

The E7400 is cheaper and has a newer stepping than the E7300. (should overclock better and provide higher stability.)
Intel is phasing out the E7300s and that's why the E7400 came down to 120$.

I'd get the E7400 with 2.8GHz and 3MB L2 Cache.

He dosent need a damn Xiggy with a E5200. $45 for the cooler then another $7 for the bolt kit? At that cost he could have a E7400 which can be overclocked well with the stock cooler, along with the E5200 for that matter.

The AC7 or any $20 for that matter will do just fine, like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835150082

Think smarter, not harder people. Charts and graphs dont mean everything.

Go with the E7300/7400 Proximon, or the E5200 with a much cheaper cooler like ive linked.

I just swapped a Hyper TX2 for a Xigmatek 1283 and got exactly the same temps on an OC'ed e7300. See my post under cooling for more details.

Most review websites show the AC7 and Hyper TX2 at about the same cooling ability. SilentPC shows the Xigmatek cooling about 10 degrees better than the Hyper TX2, but my system shows that to be false. I don't know which "review" websites are funded by which companies, but I wouldn't believe all the fancy charts because I've found many to be unfounded. They've sent me off buying different products (which is their goal, of course), with little except wasted time and similar results in the end.

I'd recommend buying whichever of the 3 (AC7, Hyper TX2, or Xig) is least expensive at the time (they all go on and off sale often). Frys has the Hyper for $17 right now. The AC7 I've seen for $22 in Bens Bargains. The Xig is on sale from Newegg for $27 AR with a 10' USB cable.

Just my 2 cents.

+1 shadow

I was able to cool my E6850 @ 3.6 with my MINITYPHOON from TT. (92MM fan)...

WC give better temp and more stable ... but this "litle" TT cooler was capable.
