E5200

Hi there, i'll be ordering parts on mon, however i just picked e5200 possibly over the e7200 as it'll save 60 bucks and they'll both easily oc to 3.5+ghz. I was pretty set with the e5200 until i noticed that it's a pentium not a core 2 duo... yet it's a wolfdale just like the 7200 and the only true difference is see in the instruction set sse4.1 is this a big deal and what's it for? I found a link that talks about it but not so that i can understand it....insert sad face there... anyhow My comp will be used for gaming, and media especially video encoding--gotta fill the ipod up with something you know.

Both are "core 2 duo" Wolfdale CPUs - but named differently for marketing purposes. Other differences:
E5200 FSB 800 L2 Cache 2MB
E7200 FSB 1066 L2 Cache 3MB

anyhow My comp will be used for gaming, and media especially video encoding--gotta fill the ipod up with something you know.

Media editing programs that use SSE4.1 extensions will be more efficient (faster) with the E7200 than the E5200 - but the E5200 will still get the job done without any problem.

thanks for the links, but i think im getting it from newegg. Have to get the retail first, which is $5 more than the oem version on the link you gave me, both have free shipping. Its simply because I'm waiting till all is in the case before getting my heatsink the one I want the mfg suggests 200mm on the sides with 170mm height clearance so get it built. test it out then measure for my hs and move on. its here http://www.case-mod.com/gigabyte-ghpsu23pb-gpower-ii-pro-cpu-cooler-p-3525.html if anyone was curious to see it.

How did you happen to pick that cooler? Have you seen any reviews of it's performance?

I just noticed the SIZE of that CPU cooler. 162 mm high. What case will you be using?
For comparison some of there other tall CPU coolers:
XIGMATEK Dark Knight: 159mm
Sunbeam Core-Contact Freezer: 155mm

yeah i know its not like top notch i have seen a bunch of reviews and the ones where its in a lineup its usually like 6-7th on the list. So I'm not getting the greatest but as I plan on modding in the future and it has some seriously sweet looks, plus its a 120cm fan in there so it's super quiet even on full bore.

its going into a raidmax smilodon, it should have enough room, but I dont know for sure, hence waiting until i have the rest of the comp built before order the cooler.

well... i've visited tons of sites researching all the parts for my comp, but here was one site (it also happens to be the site that had the lowest rating and highest temps also the oldest review i had found by a few months...)
