I tried OCing my e6300 following this guide exactly http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/GUIDE-GHz-Core-Duo-Budget-Syst...631-Ove
1) Flash Bios with Latest version. (version F6)
2) Enter Bios Settings
Advanced BIOS Features
- Disable CPUID Max to 3
- Disable No-Execute Memory Protection
- Disable C1E
- Disable TM2
- Disable EIST
- Disable Virtualization Technology

PC Health Status
- Disable Smart Fan Control Method

Motherboard Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T.)
- Press Ctrl+F1 for Advanced Settings
- CPU Clock Ratio (CPU Multiplier) at 7x
- CPU Host Frequency (FSB) at 430MHz
- PCI Express Frequency at 100MHz
- Disable CIA2
- System Memory Multiplier at 2.00 (1:1 Ratio)
- DRAM Timing at 5-5-5-15
- *** DDR2 OverVoltage Control +0.2V (2.0V) ***
- FSB OverVoltage +0.2V (1.4V)
- (G)MCH Voltage +0.1V (1.55V)
- *** CPU Voltage at 1.274V ***
*** Your settings may vary. Some may achieve stability at higher voltage, whereas some may achieve stability at a lower voltage. ***

I followed this guide and did exactly what it told me, but when I tried to play games and also when I ran AquaMark3, I achieved worse results while being overclocked than not. I tried multiple different voltages amounts and bus speeds, ranging from 2.1-3.0 ghz, and everytime I ran AquaMark3, I achieved similar, bad results while being OC'd. I ran prime95 for 6 hours on torture mode without any errors or problems. CPUZ registered the processor speed at whatever I had tried to OC to for each trial run. (it would say my processor speed is 2.6ghz when thats what I was trying to get to). I dont understand why OCing would make my comp run WORSE than un-overclocked... I am pretty sure heat is not an issue, my core temp has been under 40 C (when i check it on the BIOS) and my comp has never turned off or anything while being OCed. Also, as I said before, I tried multiple different voltage amounts for various things, such as the cpu coltage, ddr2 overvoltage, Fsb overvoltage and MCH voltage... every time I get worse bench marks on Aquamark3 than when not OCed at all. I really want to OC my comp to get better fps on Counter-Strike:source, and I'm kinda frustrated that I paid extra for the parts I got for the sole reason of Overclocking. If anyone can help me or even just guesses as to the problem, I'm open to any suggesions. Thank you for your time.

I would check and see if overclocking has somehow slowed the pci bus. Does your computer boot any faster when overclocked? If it doesn't something is slowing down your whole system, run a memory test. Back in the old days when you overclocked, you always created, extracted, and verified a large zip file, to see if the overclock messed up the bus speeds, resulting in file system corruption. Just a thought

the boot time is about the same, and I've been checking processor speed using cpuz, but when i test with AquaMark3, it shows my processing and graphics computing are both slower when OCed.
also my first trial was with only 2.1 ghz and im using the F6 version of the gigabyte bios. i tried to use the F8 bios but when I chose the file directory where I had the F8 file, the flash bios program just exited and my comp doesnt pick up that the F8 bios, it still is under the F6.

could the ram being 667 and the mobo default being 800 have anything to do with it? does that mean I need different ram or I have to change a setting?

Are you running 1.274 voltage on the processor. THat quite low. If you are on stock cooling raise it up to 1.35 volts and see how it goes. If you are using non stock raise it up to 1.4-1.425 volts.

Also your ram could be holding you back. Maybe loosen timings or get new ram.

I have the same CPU and Motherboard as you ( BIOS F3 ), I run mine stable at 2.8Ghz (Host 400Mhz/ 1600Mhz FSB) mainly because my ram is PC6400 and I prefer to run it at stock.

I reckon that if you try 400Mhz and 5-5-5-15 timings you should see better performance. One thing I've noticed about this board is the northbrige gets very hot, perhaps you could try an aftermarket cooler. Or, if it's an option, send your ram back and get some PC-6400.
