Hello!
This is my first post and my first attempts at overclocking!
I have done loads of reading etc, but due to having 3 kiddies (2 of which are under 5 😀 ) my time and concentration is limited!!! Having said that I think I am doing ok so far, but need some useful tips/advice as to anything I should be doing or not be doing!
So far I have got this:
E6600 @ 3.29 stable (Orthos 10hrs+) FSB 9x366 (Auto 1.36v)
2900xt @ 810/985 (AMD GPU Clock tool and ATITOOL for fan control-stock cooler, hope to get Thermalright HR-03 R600 soon, the stock fan is so loud it disturbs my baby sleeping!!!)
Geil 6400 @ 4 4 4 12 @ 733 (2.1v) (thinking about getting some fans for those)
My temps at load are about 45-52 c (core temp and TAT)
Asus probe shows my CPU temp about 5-7c higher BUT core temp and TAT show about the same temps?)
My motherboard is getting hot at around 55c load (or so says Asus Probe!?)
I started with a 3d Mark06 of 9813 and with this set up I have 11885. It seems like all is well...BUT...
I was having big trouble at trying for FSB 370, when trying to even slightly OC my 2900, with either no posting or getting "Overclocking failed" messages. So I tried upping/lowering the Vcore and could then not even boot, whatever the voltage, I got sometimes "the checksum does not match..." error messages.I tried loosening my RAM timings but it did not help. So it is on Auto for now. Any ideas?
So, without really understanding why (but having looked at many peoples specs) I set the NB to 1.4v and enabled CPU line calibration (I think this was called Voltage damper before), 2t for my RAM, and I was able to get the specs I have now.
I will be trying for better though! :bounce:
I don't really have a question as such, just like to know if what I am on the right track, as although I think I'm doing well, I really can't wrap my head around lots of the stuff...then there's the pencil mod... :pt1cable:
I'm thinking of getting a new PSU. I have Thermaltake 700w W0106, but didn't think I'd be overclocking when I got it. I'd really like one with only 1 or 2 12v rails, not 4 like mine! I also need a PCI-E 8 pin for my 2900.
Anyway, I hope the image I posted is working!? Let me know please!
Thanks for any pointers!
Debs :)
PS Can you tell me what the "bootstrap" :heink: option is for and to what setting it should be on?

You're doing good 😉

Get your CPU stable before fiddling with gfx. I'd try whacking the vcore up to 1.4v - you should then be able to push the e6600 further (keep an eye on those temps). When you're satisfied with the level of OC you can try backing off the vcore until you find the lowest stable setting for your given OC.

Also your RAM should be fine at 4,4,4,12 T2 unless you get really extreme with your OC as I've found that those Geil sticks can be pushed quite hard (bargain of the century). I notice that you have 4Gb so I presume you're running a 64Bit OS.

Your PSU should not need replacing either.

Once again, well done 😉

Bootstrap: A short program, often written in assembler, which gains control when the machine is first powered on. The bootstrap sets up an environment that will allow the Kernel to continue to boot Symbian OS (eg setting up memory, I/O devices and creating virtual memory space).

no idea what setting, just thought id add that definition.

Hi!
Thanks guys for the help!
Sorry I didn't reply sooner...I have been sick for the past week!
Anyway, I will carry on and up my FSB a little.
I will leave the GPU alone for a while as "the great beast" suggested!
I will surely be needing some help again very soon!
Thanks again!
