E6600 Running at 1.8ghz?

My Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Seems to be running at 1.800 Mhz according to CPU-Z and system Properties and not 2.40GHz? Found out after trying to run Cube World and having lagging problems and i was told to check out my cpu.

Intel CPUs automatically down-clock when not used to save power. This is normal. If you start doing something intensive the clock speed will go back up. WHat kind of lagging are you experiencing? Is it online gameplay lag or low frame-rates?
