Just got an e8400 and overclocked it to 3.6ghz
I ran crysis on very high and fps are 30-46...sweet
I then OC to 4.0 ghz and guess what exact same fps...puzzled
I thought I was gonna jump to 40 minimum, what gives?
Doesnt the faster the CPU the more it pushes the GPU,how else are these world breaking 3dmark06 scores being broken with 5.6ghz ocs'

Ocing your cpu from 3.6GHz to 4GHz does not increase your Crysis fps? This strongly suggests that the fps is being limited by the GPU. If your vidcard can do so much, a increase in CPU speed won't bring your better frames. What vidcard do you have?

3dmark06 scores include cpu score, so obviously increasing the cpu speed will bring major gains in score.

I have 8800gtx SLI with a mild oc of 621/2000 and yeah I did get a hefty boost on 3dmark06 but not just on the cpu test,so I figured the more the OC the more gpu power.
Check these results from 3 test and as to why I assume this.

3DMark Score 15694 with e6550 @3.5ghz
SM 2.0 Score 6971
SM 3.0 Score 8466
CPU Score 3051

3DMark Score 16598 with e8400 @3.6ghz
SM 2.0 Score 7446
SM 3.0 Score 8774
CPU Score 3275

3DMark Score 18374 with e8400 @4.05ghz
SM 2.0 Score 8530
SM 3.0 Score 9323
CPU Score 3673

Do you see the pattern on the 3d scores,so in theory it should do the same on games like Crysis.

3dmark means something, but when it comes to real world applications such as games, 3dmark06 means squat. You can not base everything on 3dmark, it is only a reference.

Crysis especially is tough, so you can't expect much out of even the fastest rigs out there.

yeah thats right!3DMark just give you general ideas on the performance of your rig.but doesnt always reflect in real world performance as AMD demonstrated very well with its graphics card!which all flopped!
