Hi, I am thinking of buying an E 8600 and oc at 4, being frustrated with the system I build last year. I am doing mainly gaming. I never oc but reading a little I understood that it should be easy, specially because I have no high goals. I found an Asus® P5Q which apparently severs the purpose. I don't know what memory. Perhaps OCZ 2Gb PC9600 CL5 DDR2 Dual Channel FlexXLC Edition?
Has anybody oc E 8600? What MB, memory, setting were used? Happy with the arrangements? Stable? Temperature?
Or it is a stupid idea?
Thank you.

every chip is different. every NB and cpu will require different voltages to achieve different settings... i recommend 4GB ram regardless of your os anyway..

have an e8600 meself, its a very quick adjustment to adjust the fsb from 333 to 400, then adjust the ram ratio to keep ya ram at its standard speed, save and reboot, i left pretty much everything else on auto except the pci express which i set to 100mhz.

im using an aftermarket cooler, but you could probably get away with just the stock one, just depends on how quiet you want it to be, mine runs at 28c idle, 40c loaded.

Thank you montyuk, It is exactly what I had in mind. I do not want to play with voltages and other things because I am no expert and I am not trying to become one:).
Can you give me some more details about your system? MB, RAM, cooler? For how long you have it like this? Does make a difference? Are you happy with it? What operating system? What video card?
I prefer to have something tested because I do not want to try to be "original"
Thanks again and give me more details please.

MB - Gigabyte EP45T-DS3R
RAM - 4GB Corsair DDR3 1333 DHX
Cooler - Noctua C12P
Case - HAF 932 (full case - its a beasty)
Win XP (although thinking about using Win 7 for fun with vista drivers)
Video - Ati 4870 (i have the force3d dht version but i would not recommend it - the fan controls dont work so get another version)
PSU - Corsair 700W (but this is supposedly a bit overkill - 650 would suffice)
Fan Controller - Zalman MFC1 Plus

got it about a month ago,

ok well basically if i were in your position i would set the vcore at 1.3625 (or as close as possible to that) and the FSB at 400. then either continue ocing until it fails, or keepthe oc and lowre the vcore one increment a time until it fails, then nudge it up one to ensure stability.

pretty simple.
